COMBINED BASIC AND ADVANCED
MARINE FIREFIGHTING TRAINING
 

 Students apply classroom training in extinguishing live fires in a realistic ship-like structure. Topics of this five-day course include:
 
  • Chemistry of Fire
  • Fire Prevention
  • Extinguishing Agents
  • Portable and Fixed Extinguishers
  • Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus
  • Organizing Fire Response Teams
  • Firefighting Safety  Fire Control Planning and Procedures
  • Hands-On Firefighting Evolutions Under Live-Fire Conditions

Firefighting is, by its very nature, hazardous.  Trainees must be in sound physical condition.  The United States Government does not provide insurance of any type for participants in the program.  Participants personally assume all risks in connection with the firefighting training activities.  The Maritime Administration reserves the right to deny or terminate training of any individual if such training appears to constitute a hazard to that person or to others.

MEETING YOUR STCW
TRAINING REQUIREMENTS
FOR BASIC AND ADVANCED
MARINE FIRE TRAINING

 

 
U.S. COAST GUARD APPROVED

A student who successfully completes the 40-hour Combined Basic and Advanced Firefighting Course will be issued a certificate of completion.  This will satisfy the following requirements: 

  1. The Basic Safety Fire Prevention and Firefighting training requirement of Section           A-VI/1 and Table A-VI/1-2 of the STCW Code and 46CFR 10.205(1) (2); -AND-

  2. The Advanced Firefighting training requirements of Section A-VI/3 and Table                A-VI/3 of the STCW Code; -AND-

  3.  The Basic and Advanced Firefighting training requirements of 46CFR 10.205(g)          and 10.401(g)(1) for a license;  -AND-

  4.  The Firefighting Training requirements of 46CFR 13.113(d)(2)(i)(A), 13.113(e)(1)(i)(A)     or (B); 13.201(e), 13.301(e), 13.401(e), or 13.501(e) for any tankerman endorsement.

  • Interactive classroom instruction

  • Demonstration of proper donning of complete firefighter turnout gear

  • Operation of self-contained breathing apparatus

  • Understanding of proper rescue procedures for a personnel casualty

  • Application of classroom training through a live-fire situation in a ship simulator

ABOUT THE TRAINING

The five-day class is held Monday through Friday, beginning at 8:30 a.m. and concluding at 4:30 p.m. each day.   Sessions include both classroom training and actual live-fire exercises. 


Training Schedule

Trainees should bring work clothes, long-sleeve shirts, full-length pants or coveralls, and heavy socks.  Trainees should dress for the local weather conditions.  Showers are available at the facility. 
 
Please be prepared to show a verifiable picture ID such as a driver’s license or passport.
Lodging and meals are the responsibility of the trainee, and are NOT available at the fire training facility.  Trainees must also make arrangements for their own transportation.
